Revised Review of Peter Horrobin's Healing Through Deliverance now online

It has been ten years since I published on-line my review of Peter Horribin's book Healing Through Deliverance. 1: The Biblical Basis. Over the years I have had a good deal of positive feedback regarding it from around the globe, so I thought it was about time that I updated the page numbers to match those of the second edition:

A very astute critique, but do you have any experience or words of wisdom to offer regarding the subject of deliverance to right Horrobin's wrongs? How are we supposed to operate as Jesus did in this area?

We are frequently cautioned not to "allow satan a foothold" and Jesus declared that the "prince of this world is coming and he has nothing in me" both suggesting that it is possible for satan to gain powerful influence over believers. Paul talks about handing of a believer to satan for the destruction of his flesh' Jesus also clearly addresses satan in a a believer when he rebukes his manifestation in Peter, his disciple! Annanias and Sapphira were asked "why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Ghost" Clearly demonic influence over believers is a New Covenant reality. I might succumb to the temptation to conclude there is something in the fact that you cite Harry Potter rather than the bible as one of your favourite books!:0)

The New Testament makes a clear distinction between those who are demon possessed and those who are not. Your mistake is to interpret every mention of Satan/demons and believers as evidence for possession when the context indicates otherwise. In the examples cited the believer(s) in question are regarded as being personally culpable for their sins. No-one (not even Jesus) attempts exorcism in any of these cases, yet that was the first response when demon possession was the issue.
